Wednesday Update - February 7, 2018

St. Matthew's Annual General Meeting Thursday, February 22, 2018 6:00 pm

A reminder that all families are expected to attend our upcoming AGM on Thursday, February 22, 2018.  It will take place in the school gym.  A review of the school year so far and reports from our Education Committee will take place.  At least one parent must attend this meeting in order to receive a re-registration package for their child for the 2018-2019 school year.  Refreshments and door prizes will be handed out!                       

Any family who does not attend will need to make an appointment with the Principal.  If you have any questions please contact the school office: 

No School - Tomorrow, Friday and Monday

Reminder:  there will be NO SCHOOL for students on Thursday, February 8 and Friday, February 9, 2018.  St. Matthew's teachers will be joining all other Catholic educators in the province for the annual, Catholic Educators' Conference in downtown Vancouver.  School will re-open on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 (after the Monday Family Day holiday).  


Shrove Tuesday Pancake Lunch

On Tuesday, February 13, 2018  we will have our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Lunch.  All students will be treated to a hearty pancake lunch to mark the day before Lent begins!  Thank you to all the parents who organize and cook for this delicious meal!  If your child has any special dietary conditions or allergies, please contact your child’s teacher to inform them.  Thank you.


Ash Wednesday Mass 

On Wednesday, February 14, 2018 we will commemorate the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday Mass.  The Mass will begin at 9:00 am and our Grade 5 students will be doing the readings.  All family members and parishioners are most welcome to attend.

Lenten Morning Masses 

Students in Grades 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are asked to attend 8:00 am morning Masses with their classmates.  Please note that parents are most welcome to attend these Masses, too.  Below are a list of scheduled dates for your child's class:

Grade 1 Assembly

Please note that the Grade 1 assembly has been rescheduled to Friday, February 16 at 9:00 am in our school gym.  All are welcome to attend!

Mite Boxes 

Within the next few days your child will be bringing home a Lenten Mite box.  Students are encouraged to put some of their allowance or money they earn from chores into the Mite Boxes.  All monies received goes towards the formation of seminarians at our local seminary.  In addition to the Mite Box your child will also receive the picture of a particular seminarian; it would be a wonderful idea for you and your child to pray for this young man each night.

Help Requested

Washing of Altar Servers' Robes

The church is looking for a few parents to help wash the altar servers' robes.  The aim is to keep these robes washed every 2 weeks.  If your child is currently an altar server please thoughtfully consider this request.  Any parent interested in helping out is asked to contact Sandi Luongo at:  604-530-1893 or   



Holy Cross High School Spring Break Basketball Skills Camp

Students in Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 have an opportunity to join a basketball skills camp March 12 - 16, 2018 from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon.  More information about the camp can be found by clicking here.  Forms are also being sent home with students.  Spaces are limited and students will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis, so act quickly to ensure your child can participate!

Volleyball Camp Opportunity

Grade 4 and Grade 5 Girls

Junior Crusaders Volleyball program is geared for girls currently in Grade 4 and Grade 5 who want to increase their volleyball skills and love of the game. For some players, this will be their first introduction to the sport so there will be a large focus on fun while learning new skills. This is a great opportunity to have fun, make new friends and learn the game. Cost is $80. Program runs every Saturday 9:30 am -11:00 am April 7-June 9, 2018 at Holy Cross Regional High School.
