Healthy Lunch Program

Students have been provided a notice about the Term 3 Healthy Lunch menu.  Please review the information and follow the registration instructions provided, and submit all orders by Sunday April 1, 2018.  The first lunch service will begin on Wednesday Apr. 4, 2018.  Thank you.

Preschool Purdy's Chocolate Campaign

Support our Preschool by ordering your Easter chocolates through their Purdy's fundraiser.  Ordering can be done online by visiting: purdysgpp.com, and entering the Customer Number: 27832.  All orders must be submitted by Wednesday, March 14, 2018 for the chocolates to be delivered in time for Easter.  Thank you for your support!

Poverty Lunch - Holy Thursday

All students will participate in our annual Poverty Lunch on Thursday, March 29, 2018.  Students will be provided with bread and a beverage (water) at lunch time.  We are asking that on this day students bring a non-perishable food item.  All donations will be given to St. Matthew's St. Vincent de Paul Society; this group helps those members of our community who are in need.

Also, please note that on this day (March 29, 2018) we ask that girls do not wear tights as there is a special activity all students will take part in, that requires students to wear socks.  Thank you.

Lenten Morning Mass 

Students in Grades 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are asked to attend 8:00 am morning Masses with their classmates.  Please note that parents are most welcome to attend these Masses, too.  Below details the last scheduled date your child is asked to attend Mass:

Communicating Student Learning (CSL) Progress Reports 

On April 3, 2018 CSL Progress Reports (formerly known as report cards) will go home.  Please note that the CSL covers are to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to your child's teacher as soon as possible.

Grade 1 Parent Meeting

(First Reconciliation &      Communion Information)

Parents and guardians of students in Grade 1 please note that on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 6:30 pm there is a mandatory meeting regarding the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion held in Jubilee Hall.  Expectations regarding these Sacraments will be explained.  At least one parent/guardian needs to attend this meeting.  Thank you.

          

Grade 2 Parent Meeting

Parents and guardians of students in Grade 2, there will be a meeting on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 6:30 pm in Jubilee Hall.  A discussion on the importance of the Mass and the procedures for First Holy Communion will be reviewed.  Thank you.

Grade 6 Parent Meeting

(Confirmation Preparation)

Parents and guardians of students in Grade 6 please be reminded that on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 6:30 pm there is a mandatory meeting regarding the Sacrament of Confirmation, to be held in Jubilee Hall.  Expectations regarding the Confirmation program will be explained.  Please note that at least one parent/guardian needs to attend this meeting.  Thank you!

Fundraising Bottle Drive

April 7, 2018 - 11:30 am - 2:00 pm

Save your bottles! The Grade 6 class will be fundraising once again for their Outdoor Education in September.  We would appreciate you saving any recyclable juice box containers, water bottles, beer and pop cans, and spirit and liquour bottles.  Bring your reyclables to the front entrance of St. Matthew’s Elementary School between 11:30 am and 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 7, 2018.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Parenting Workshop

CISVA Sexuality and Your Child

Save the date!  On Monday, April 16, 2018 parents in Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6 and Grade 7 have a wonderful opportunity to gain skills on how to talk to your children about sensitive topics such as, growth and maturity, media influences and parent-child relationships.  Professional speakers from Signal Hill have been booked to given an individualized workshop for each grade.  The workshop will begin at 7:00 pm and end at approximately 8:15 pm.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Spring Presentation

Save the date!  All students will participate in our annual Spring Presentation on Thursday, April 19, 2018.  There will be 2 shows:  1:30 pm and 7:00 pm.  Admission is by donation of a non-perishable food item for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Thank you!

Staffing News

As of June 30, 2018 two of our teachers will not be returning to St. Matthew's Elementary School:  our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Jeanine Sallos and our Grade 7 teacher, Mrs. Kristina Tzetzos.  Mrs. Sallos will be returning to St. Mary's School in Chilliwack, where she taught for over 15 years.  Mrs. Sallos also resides in Chilliwack.  Mrs. Tzetzos will be engaged in other endeavours during the 2018-2019 school year.  Thankfully we still have them both with us for the next few months!

Spring Break

St. Matthew's Elementary School is now closed for Spring Break.  School will re-open on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 8:40 am.
