Friday Update

Friday Update – October 15, 2021

Dear St. Matthew’s Elementary School Families,
Today we experienced a lovely moment when our entire school gathered together for a rosary assembly led by our Grade 5 class.  The rosary is a powerful prayer and in this month dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary it was wonderful to prayer together as a school community.

Sincerely in Christ,
Miss Welsh

CANDY APPEAL:
THE GOOD SHEPHERD MINISTRY

The Good Shepherd Ministry is a Catholic charity that works with homeless men and women.  During the season of Halloween they make an appeal for any extra candy (especially chocolates) so that they can give to the less fortunate.

If your child has extra candy from their Halloween trick or treating this year, please consider donating the extras.  All the candy that we collect will be bagged and given to The Good Shepherd Ministry who will then take it to the men and women of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.  Thank you in advance.  Deadline to submit candies:  Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

THE SCHOLASTIC BOOKFAIR IS COMING BACK!

In the first week of November the ever popular Scholastic Bookfair will be back in our school library.  Students and their famlies will be able to shop “in person” for great books and other gift items.  Stay tuned for more information…

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR, FATHER TRAN

Father Tran would like to extend a very warm welcome back to all St. Matthew’s families on our 10th Anniversary year! He prays that this school year will be one filled with much peace and blessings for everyone. A few reminders:

* All families are invited to come back to Sunday Mass. The church is now considered a safe place for public worship and he is eager to have everyone experience the grace of God in church. Please go to saintmatthews.ca for Mass times.

* A reminder that everyone is expected to attend Mass every Sunday (or on Saturday evening). It is also important to bring your envelopes each time you go to Sunday Mass. This does affect a familiy’s tuition category. Families that hand in their envelopes consistently are given Category 1 status for tuition and pay the lowest rate.

* Families can also donate online instead of giving in cash/cheque with their Sunday envelopes. Please phone the parish office at 604-589-2448 for details about using the online option for weekly Sunday giving.
