Friday Update: March 4, 2022

Dear St. Matthew’s Elementary School Families,

On Wednesday we marked the start of Lent with an Ash Wednesday Mass.  Students will be encouraged to engage in Lenten activities and traditions like meatless Fridays throughout the Lenten season.

Next week our school will focus on all things literary with our annual Literacy Week!  Each day students and staff will engage in activities including:  Stop, Drop and Read and this year students will be  challenged to dress up as their favourite animal literacy character (Garfield, anyone?)

Please note that the non-uniform day for this month has moved to Wednesday, March 9 to accommodate our Literacy Week.  I am looking forward to seeing some creative costumes!

Sincerely in Christ,
Miss Welsh

OPEN PARACHUTE

A friendly reminder that the mental health resource we are utilizing in our school, Open Parachute, is available to parents.

This program addresses issues of stigma surrounding mental health in young people, encourages help-seeking, and creates a culture of mutual support and respect for any struggles that students may face. This program was developed by Dr Hayley Watson, an adolescent clinical psychologist who has been developing programs across Canada and internationally for the past 15 years. There are video-based resources to provide you, as a parent, with practical tools for supporting the well-being of your child at all stages of their life. These resources can be accessed by clicking HERE and creating your own (free) account
