Friday Update: May 12, 2023

Dear St. Matthew’s Elementary School Families,

Today was our Walkathon Day!  Thank you to ALL the staff, students and parent volunteers who made this day a fantastic one!   A special thanks to our core Walkathon team parent coordinators and the St. Matthew’s Knights of Columbus who provided us with a hot dog lunch!

It was great to see the community come together to not only raise funds for a permanent scoreboard for our gym and a climbing wall for our sensory room but, to also experience fellowship, faith and fun!  Thank you all for your unwavering support of our school!  For the grand prize winning classes please scroll to the bottom of this email.

This Sunday is extra-special for the Grade 2s in our parish community:  they will receive their First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 14, 2023.  Please keep them and their families in your prayers.  Also, a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of our SMES moms!

FULL-SCALE EMERGENCY EVACUATION DRILL – FRIDAY, JUNE 9, 2023

On Friday, June 9, 2023 our school will be engaging in a full-scale emergency evacuation drill.  In this drill students and staff practise how to safely evacuate in the event of an emergency.  For this drill we will also practise having parents/authorized caregivers pick up children using a particular set of protocols.  More information will be given in the days leading up to this drill but, do keep in mind that we will be dismissing children on that day starting at 2:00 pm.  For those students in Out of School Care, they will be dismissed to the OSC.  More details will be forthcoming soon but, if you have any specific questions please email me at welsh@stmatthewselementary.ca   Thank you.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION AFTERNOON – JUNE 7, 2023 – SAVE THE DATE!

As mentioned in last week’s email update all family members who have volunteered in any capacity at St. Matthew’s Elementary School are invited to our second annual Volunteer Appreciation Afternoon on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Doors will open at 1:30 pm and coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be served by our Grade 7 leaders!  Guests will also be treated to entertainment by each of our classes.  Get ready to be wowed by poems, songs and perhaps even a little dancing!
