Friday Update - October 27, 2017

Saint Dress Up Day: Tuesday, October 31 and All Saints Mass: Wednesday, November 1

Just like last year, our October 31 Non-Uniform Day will be focused on the saints of the Catholic Church. Students are encouraged to come dressed up as as their favourite saint. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to learn key details about a saint’s life and to weave that information into a saint costume!  An alternative is for you and your child to create a symbol associated with a particular saint and pin that onto your child's uniform.  Please note students are not required to bring money for this non-uniform day.

Also, there will be an All Saints Mass for our school children on Wednesday, November 1 at 9:00 am in St. Matthew's church.  All are welcome!

  3 Way Conferences

Friday, November 3

The first opportunity for parents and guardians to learn of their child(ren)’s progress will be through our 3 Way Conferences held on:  Friday, November 3, 2017

Please note that this is not a regular day of school for children and thus, there is NO SCHOOL for students on this day. You and your child just need to come in for your scheduled time.

On this day, parents and guardians will have an opportunity to learn of their child's(ren's) progress . This conference will involve: the child, at least one parent/guardian, and their child's teacher. This conference will allow children to articulate what they have been learning and what they feel they are successful at, so far in the school year.

Please note that this conference will be focused on the social, emotional and behavioural aspects of your child's(ren's) progress. Academic progress will be addressed in the forthcoming Communicating Student Learning (CSL) Progress Report (Report Card) in early December.

If you have questions or concerns about your child's academic progress please contact your child's teacher through email or a phone call. Please note that students are expected to come to school dressed in FULL uniform on this day.

It's almost here ... The Scholastic Book Fair!

The St. Matthew’s Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the school library.  On November 1st and 2nd, the book fair will be open from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm and after school from 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm.  On Friday, Nov. 3rd, the book fair will be open all day, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to allow parents and children to stop by before or after their 3-Way Conferences.

Your support of past book fairs has allowed the school to purchase teaching resources and books for each classroom, as well as a shared collection of math and science materials.  We thank you for your continued support, and hope to see you at the book fair!

Cold and Flu Season

It is definitely the season for flus and colds.

Please note that it is very important that if your child is not well they remain at home.   In order to stop the spread of these viruses, I ask you to be very diligent about deciding if your child comes to school.

Thank you for your support and attention in this matter.

Pancake Breakfast - Thank you!

Many thanks to all families and SMES staff who joined the elementary school for their first pancake breakfast of the school year last Sunday.  We had a great turn-out, and appreciate all the support!  Mark your calendars for the next event:  Sunday November 19, 2017.
